Tryout Registration is OPEN on 4/1 for the 2024-25 Season!
We will be opening up registrations beginning April 1 for our Individual Tryout Evaluations that will be held Mon. May 20 - Wed. May 22. Please make sure to reference the new tryout information and links to our forms on our website, as well as our updated 2024-25 Parent Athlete Handbook. You will need to follow the required steps below to get athletes registered:
STEP 1: Register for the appropriate tryout session through the Parent Portal on our website: www.connectcheernw.com
STEP 2: Complete the necessary athlete forms via the DocuSign link located under the TEAMS/Required Season Paperwork tab on our website.
STEP 3: Note your athlete’s tryout session date and time and then their athlete number once given the day of tryouts.
We will be holding our Phase 1 of Tryouts, or Individual Tryouts Mon. May 20 - Wed. May 22. Athletes will be broken up into groups based upon age and level, and will be given a designated hour to report for their Individual Tryout. Returning athletes will try out during the block designated for their CURRENT 2023-24 TEAM (**crossovers may opt to sign up for either team’s session). Please do not register for a different level session.
New athletes that are levels 1-4 will try out for the appropriate NEW ATHLETE age block and new athletes that are levels 5 or 6 (throwing running tumbling fulls or higher or have competed on an All Star team level 5 or higher elsewhere ) will try out with the appropriate level (with returning athletes at that level). Returning and New Athletes that would like to be placed on a Prep Team only, will sign up for the Prep Team Only block.
Athletes will be assigned a number upon arrival, and will be called individually to perform their short tryout routine in front of a panel of CCNW staff. Tryout routine videos will be emailed out on a couple of different target dates (tbd) depending upon when an athlete has completed registration and payment for tryouts online. This mini routine will incorporate some standing tumbling, running tumbling, jumps and dance (that are level appropriate). If an athlete is unable to learn the routine for whatever reason, staff will simply do an evaluation of isolated skills during his/her individual tryout.
In order to accomplish our mission of building competitive teams and giving our athletes a fair opportunity to work towards their goals for the season, we have again incorporated leveled practice training time prior to final team placements. Leveled training group practices will provide a more in-depth evaluation of skills in a broader group setting, and will also include some assessment of stunt positions and skills in building areas. Please keep in mind that for our returning athletes, coaches will also be reviewing athlete attendance, athlete progress, skills and performance from this past season, as a guide in assessing skills potential when determining athletes’ 2024-25 placement. Following our Individual Tryout Evaluations, we will post the leveled practice groups along with practice days and times for these groups on our website by 6 PM on Thursday, May 23. Athletes will attend three total leveled practices between Tues., May 28 – Wed., June 5 in their leveled practice groups. Athletes may be asked to shift groups or attend an additional group after the first practice, and/or athletes may be placed on a team/level that is different from their leveled practice group once final team placements are made.
Our staff will form teams while considering a number of factors to include: age, mental maturity, athletes’ strengths, stunt positions, tumbling skills, and ability for teams to meet scoring ratios. Our goal is to create 2024-25 teams that will have the best opportunity to be competitive and successful, while allowing individual team members to best showcase their strengths and skills in routine choreography. It is important to understand team members may not all have the exact same tumbling skills (for example). Stunting, jumping, performance and other aspects of the score sheet are factored in as well.
Final team placements will be announced on our website (along with a team practice schedule) by 6 PM on Friday, June 7. TEAM PRACTICES WILL BEGIN MONDAY, JUNE 10.
